Local MP Amber Rudd received praise from the Prime Minister for her work towards addressing climate change earlier today during today’s Prime Minister’s Questions.
The Paris Agreement is a pioneering agreement within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) to work towards addressing climate change. It was drafted during Amber’s time as Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change and was signed on 22 April 2016. The agreement seeks to limit emissions with a long term aim of reducing increases in global temperature.
Prime Minister Theresa May said:
“The United Kingdom has been leading the way in relation to dealing with climate change. The United Kingdom was, I think, the first country to bring in legislation relating to it, and the Government have a good record in dealing with these issues. Crucially, we have ensured that we remain committed to the Paris accord. I pay tribute to my Right Hon. Friend the Member for Hastings and Rye (Amber Rudd), who played a key role in ensuring that the Paris accord was agreed to and that everybody signed up to it.”
